Rising 7th-12th Graders are invited to apply to become a Counselor in Training at Playground Stage's Summer Camp. This is a volunteer leadership position with opportunity to learn about theatre education, backstage theatre arts, and theatre administration.
6 CIT spots per Camp Session are available. We often have a waitlist for volunteers. Unexcused absences, perpetual tardiness or leaving early, and un-responsible behavior are not tolerated and the CIT will be asked leave.
Confirmation of a Counselor In Training position will be sent out in early May.
Applications will resume in March 2027 for summer 2027
Responsibilities include:
- Set a good example and act as a role model to Campers in grades K-6th.
-Encourage campers to follow camp rules and to use good rehearsal etiquette.
-Help backstage during rehearsals and performances as costume crew, props master, assistant stage manager and/or teaching assistant.
-Help campers learn lines and choreography
-Assist Lead Teaching Artists & College Teaching Artists monitor lunch & free time
-Lead theatre games amongst the campers
-Create props, backdrops, and costumes for Camp Performances
-Lead cleaning & end of day chores.
-Help with projects like the summer newsletter, social media posts, and program marketing.
-Stay after performances to help strike sets and organize costumes.
Requirements for CITs
- All CIT's must fill out the CIT Application form & submit it by the end of the day on April 30th 2026. If you have any questions please contact Education@playgroundstage.org
-Must be a Rising 7th-12th Grader or 12-18 years old at the start of camp.
-Will be expected to arrive to camp at 8:45am & stay until 4:30pm each day unless otherwise cleared with Executive Director Leslie Putnam.
-Must be available for the final two camp days of the session for dress rehearsal and performance backstage duties.
- Wednesday 6/10/26 2pm-4pm: Attend Playground Stage Summer Camp Training at the Playground Stage Office at Avery's Creek Community Center.
-Complete Red Cross Babysitting Basics (online via the Red Cross prior to Camp Training).
-Once approved; parent/guardian must sign permission & legal forms.
