Every Playground Stage class is open to every student in the designated age range and PGS works with families to ensure students with disabilities, neurodivergences, medical conditions, or other access needs are provided the supports that will enable a positive creative learning experience.
Recognizing the value of being in community with those who shared our lived experiences, we offer classes specialized for those with neurodevelopment conditions and disabilities and cognitive and developmental disabilities in partnership with We Rock The Spectrum. These classes emphasize multiple means of participation and entry-points, incorporate a variety of communication methods, and are facilitated to small class sizes to support the needs and interests of each student.
This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Accompany your child on a story drama adventure! Welcoming all forms of communication and expression, this class brings inspiring picture books to life through movement, music, and make believe. Caregivers participate alongside their young ones in this guided, creative play-filled story time to exercise fine and gross motor skills, explore sensory elements, and share in a collaborative play experience.
This is a caregiver-accompanied class, designed for adults to actively participate alongside their young person through modeling activities, joining in adult-child partnered exercises, and supporting their student as they know best.

Create characters, explore new places, and embark on adventures through sensory drama! Each week, a new theme and different array of sensory props will inspire an adventure shaped by the students’ ideas and imaginations. By utilizing multiple methods of communication, practicing emotional regulation, and laying a foundation for peer collaboration, students will build confidence as they develop performance, storytelling, and creative problem-solving skills.
This is a drop-off class, designed for students to explore their creativity without an audience dynamic. Students are welcome to bring a personal care assistant if needed for their success with the understanding that the care assistant will actively participate alongside the students in the class.
